My DSS Funding

MyDSS (My Disability Support System) is the new national disability funding model introduced in April 2026. It replaces several older funding pathways and is designed to make it easier for disabled people and whānau to access the equipment and support they need.

MyDSS gives people more choice, flexibility, and control over the supports they use, including sensory equipment that helps with regulation, participation, learning, and daily living.

What MyDSS Can Fund

MyDSS may fund sensory equipment when it helps a person to:

  • regulate sensory needs

  • participate in school, work, or community activities

  • manage anxiety, overwhelm, or sensory overload

  • support independence and daily functioning

  • create safe and calming environments

The key thing to remember is that your flexible funding spending must always:

  • match the purposes in your funding plan
  • relate to your disability and the support you need
  • help you (or your carers) manage the impact of your disability
  • be within your budget.

How MyDSS Works

MyDSS provides support through two main pathways:

1. Guided Support

For people who want help choosing equipment or understanding what is available. A MyDSS Connector or therapist can help identify what sensory items may be suitable.

2. Flexible Funding

For people who want more control and can choose equipment themselves. This pathway allows people to purchase approved sensory items directly from suppliers like Sensory Corner.

Need help choosing equipment?

Sensory Corner can provide:

  • product advice

  • suitability guidance

  • quotes for MyDSS applications

  • information for therapists and Connectors
